Welcome to our information and things to do in the local area of Aberystwyth and the surrounding area which are a short driving distance. We have a few static holiday homes that we act as agents for, but which are owned by other owners.
The Silver Mountain Experience is a fantastic family day out in mid-wales, filled with history, myth and legend. Our site is based at the beautifully preserved Llywernog silver-lead ore mine, based just outside Aberystwyth. Spend an afternoon visiting our historic site, experience one of our guided tours, and explore our surface attractions.
One of the best sun terraces in Wales is at The Glengower on the seafront. It offers some of the best views in Wales. It is very friendly and offers good food and exotic beers. You’ll find some great sports bars in the area, and the rugby club is always fun to go to if a game is on. In Aber, there are more than 30 pubs. You can book and visit them.
Aberystwyth has a coastal path that runs through it which is an amazing place to walk or run. Ceredigion’s coastal path between Borth and Aberystwyth is an excellent walk. The walk offers views of Snowdonia at the start as well as across Cardigan Bay at the end, making it an excellent way to discover the area.
A very lively and friendly pub on Bow Street, with fantastic food and friendly staff. A great place to relax with your family and friends during the evenings and weekends.
This town is home to the longest Cliff Railway in Britain and the biggest Camera Obscura in the world. Constitution Hill rises dramatically 430 feet from the north end of the Aberystwyth promenade. The views are spectacular from the top. On a clear day, you can see 26 Welsh mountains, including Snowdon, while the view of Cardigan Bay stretches for 60 miles from the Llyn Peninsula to Strumble Head.
Aberystwyth Electric Cliff Railway is the only one in Wales and the longest in Britain. With its 778 feet of undulating track and inclined carriages, the railway is unique to Victorian engineer G. Croyden Marks. Since 1921, a powerful electric motor and two high-tensile steel cables have hauled the carriages at a stately 4 miles an hour as they were first opened in 1896. On your way to the summit station, you will have time to admire the Victorians’ ingenuity and enjoy the panoramic views.
On the summit is the biggest Camera Obscura in the world. The huge 14-inch lens takes a bird’s eye view of more than 1000 square miles of land and seascape in a 360-degree sweep around Aberystwyth, a view reflected onto the circular screen in the darkened viewing of the gallery below.
The Medina Restaurant: Medina was born and raised in Aberystwyth where both her parents worked in the catering industry. The creation of Medina was inspired by people like the wonderful Ottolenghi, and by the foods, Medina herself loves to cook and eat at home. She wanted to bring something different to Aberystwyth – somewhere where super fresh and simple food is put together imaginatively and displayed beautifully! Medina has a very informal cafe vibe, delicious fresh food served all day, great coffee, and beautiful Chinese loose teas – and it’s fully licensed of course.
Devil’s Bridge is short drive from Aberystwyth around 9 miles, this famous 3 brigdes and 300 ft walter fall and nature walk with Jacobs ladder on one side which is well known in Wales and national, the other side has the famous punch bowl. There is cafes snack shops and souvenir and gift shops.
